New Years with my baby...

So it's New Years Eve and I am home with my baby (Russell that is). Chris is working and Max has headed off to his Grandparents house where he gets undivided attention and a never ending assortment of treats. Out of all my busy times who would have guessed that New Years Eve would be my chance to blog. LOL!

Russell is discovering his new world in his Babybjorn Balance. I love this bouncer...again no batteries and no over-stimulating here. When Russell moves the bouncer moves, simple as that. It also folds flat to fit under a chair when not in use or when I want to take it on the road.

There is a fully reclining position for sleeping infants, a raised position so babies can check out the action, and a seated position for older toddlers up to 29 pounds. You can adjust the seat without disturbing your baby.

The reversible cloth covering gives you a range of looks and friends have commented on how attractively the BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance looks.

Love It!

Celebrity Ideas!

I had to post this picture of Jessica Alba with her daughter Honor. What a brillliant idea for keeping track of a Natursutten Pacifier. Just keep it around your neck! Now why didn't I think of that?

To Blog or Not to Blog...

Well I have not been here in a while. Time slips away on these busy days before Christmas. However, life on the home front is filled with the laughter of Christmas Holiday specials and anticipation of jolly old St. Nick. The Downtown Christmas parade was a fantastic opportunity for Chris and I to give Maxwell our undivided attention while Russell stayed home with Nanny Grace. The years seem to go by so fast. I can't believe how big my first baby boy has grown. Could be the hormones, but there are tears in my eyes right now just thinking about it. It seems this might be the magical year for Maxwell. More so than last year, he seems to be very excited about old Kris Kringle. Being a parent allows us adults to have a second kick at the old Christmas bucket. How wonderful to see it now through my child's eyes. Now if I only had an extra set of hands to do all the things that need to be done...only a few weeks left until the big day. I am envious of all the Facebook posts of my lovely mom friends spending the day in the kitchen baking all kinds of goodies. I am lucky to get a few minutes to type my thoughts on this blog. Oh well, thank goodness for local baked goods.

Baby talk:
Russell is growing "like a weed". These past two months have gone by rather fast. Before I know it, we will be thinking about introducing solids. CRAZY! But for now he is just starting to show us a smile that only a baby can show. The smile that starts with the eyes and goes all the way down to the lips. If he is not in my arms cooing you will find him under his mobile in his crib. No loud lullabies or bright lights. No batteries, bells or whistles. Nothing to overstimulate a new baby. Simple, yet does what a mobile is intended to do: keep a baby visually interested. This mobile can be hung at different lengths, with interchangeable discs of black and red bold images. Russell loves looking at this mobile. In my opinion, too many toys today are overstimulating and do not captivate young babies. The Wimmer Ferguson Infant Stim-Mobile is perfect!

I Refuse to Be a Human Pacifer!!

After 4 weeks of nursing on-demand (which translates into "whenever Russell's eyes are open"), I have found the answer: The Natursutten all-natural pacifier. I love this pacifier because it is one complete system - which means no little crevices for bacteria to get trapped. Russell loves the large, soft silicone shield against his lips and cheeks. He will not keep any other pacifier in his mouth.

From the company:

Natursutten Pacifier is made of all-natural rubber from the tree Hevea brasiliensi. Natursutten soothers are free of BPA, PVC, parabens, silicone, phthalates and artificial color. The protein which on rare occasions can provoke a latex allergy is eliminated during production.
Rubber pacifiers are softer than silicone, the Natursutten pacifiers are extremely hygienic because they are molded in one piece. This means there are no joints or cracks where dirt and bacteria can accumulate.

  • No bisphenol - A (BPA), phthalates, PVC, or artificial coloring
  • Larger shield touches baby's nose, more closely simulating breast-feeding
  • Complies with safety standards EN1400 and CPSIA
  • Softer than silicone and won't leave marks on baby's face
  • Patented, easy to clean, one piece design eliminates cracks where bacteria can hide

Bath Time with the Spa Baby Tub

I couldn't wait to try this one soon as it arrived at the store. The minute we put Russell in the tub, he stopped fussing and sat quietly as we splashed the water around his body. He loved it instantly! We filled the tub only half way up to the fill line as Russell is only three weeks old. Too much water in the tub makes it hard to hold him, and is unnecessary.
This is would make a great shower gift. I'll be giving many of these to my new mommy friends. LOVE IT!

From the company: "When the owners of The Spa Baby had a baby boy, they tried several of the common tubs that require your baby to lie back in the water. The baby found it cold, uncomfortable and he hated baths - which made it a stressful experience for parents and baby alike. Then they discovered what the Europeans have been doing for years. They bathe their babies in tubs that let them sit in a natural upright position with warm water to their shoulders. The tub calms the baby by providing an environment much like the one where they spent their first nine months. It's no wonder they relax completely and enjoy it so much! And best of all, it is easy to use from newborn until your baby can go into an adult tub. It's even great for colicky babies."

Pictured above is our newborn baby boy Russell just yesterday, who clearly enjoyed his first time in the Spa Baby! As Nanny, Poppy, and Daddy attentively watched, I lowered him down into the tub slowly, and gently bathed him with a soft cloth. Within minutes, he was scrubbed clean and ready for a swaddling and a nap! Two thumbs up for the Spa Baby!
